Jake Paul and Mike Perry reportedly have a new opponent to replace Mike Tyson
Famed YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul was scheduled to face former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on July 20, but the fight was postponed after Tyson suffered a "medical scare" on a recent flight. The medical scare was ruled an ulcer flare-up, and Tyson is expected to make a full recovery.
Initially, the boxing match between Tyson and Jake Paul was going to continue, even after the scare, but it was revealed that Tyson was unable to fully train in preparation for the fight. The boxing match scheduled for July 20 was moved to November 15. Although many expected Paul to wait, he has reportedly chosen to face a new opponent on July 20.
Jake Paul and Mike Perry: New fight in July
According to multiple reports and MMA legend and insider BJ Penn, Jake Paul will face former UFC star and current Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship star Mike Perry . As of now, no official announcement has been made, but Paul and his company Most Valuable Promotions will announce the fight on Wednesday.
Confusion over Jake Paul and Mike Perry's future fight
What makes this situation even more confusing is that there are no details on whether Paul will still face Tyson in November or if the bout with Perry will be an exhibition. Still, it could be a good fight between the two.
Perry spent the majority of his MMA career with the UFC, compiling a 14-8 record since he began fighting with the promotion in 2014. However, the infamous fighter began to become involved in controversies outside the octagon, including a fight in which Perry left a man unconscious. He was also heavily criticized for a video that appeared online showing Perry saying racial slurs.
Perry eventually left the UFC and joined BKFC. He made his BKFC debut on February 19, 2022, earning a unanimous decision against Julian Lane.
After a successful debut, Perry has built an undefeated record of 5-0 in the BKFC, beating former UFC fighters such as Luke Rockhold, Eddie Alvarez and Thiago Alves.
Jake Paul continues his winning streak
Paul has had a string of victories since losing his first professional boxing fight against Tommy Fury in February 2023. After beating former UFC fighter Nate Diaz on August 5, 2023 via unanimous decision, he also knocked out Andre August on December 15, 2023 and Ryan Bourland on March 2, 2024.
Paul will reportedly return to the ring to face Perry in what could be his toughest challenge to date. Perry is a notoriously tough fighter who has great power. However, he only has a little over a month to train for this upcoming boxing match.
