The story of José Bisbal, father of David Bisbal

José Bisbal Carrillo: The Legacy in the Ring

 

José Bisbal Carrillo was born on December 1, 1941 in Almería, in the popular old square of the city. He dedicated himself to boxing and became champion of Andalusia as an amateur, as well as runner-up in Spain in 1960 in the flyweight, losing in the final against the Valencian Luis Rodríguez and champion the following year, taking the gold medal in the bantamweight in 1961 in the championships held in Madrid.

He debuted as a professional on July 15, 1961 against Cristóbal Lobato , winning on points. He would reign again at bantamweight by defeating Madrid's José Arranz , another of the greats of the moment. He fought against excellent boxers, such as the Italian Tommasso Galli , or the Spanish world champion José Legrá , in addition to touring Europe fighting and facing high-class boxers, such as the British Walter McGowan , candidate for the world title, or Alan Rudkin , champion of Europe, and the Swede Jean Person , whom he beats twice.
